Gouging is a controlled material removal process used for weld preparation, weld defect removal, back-gouging and repair work. At CPW Contracting, gouging is used in structural, industrial and field applications where existing weld metal or base material must be removed before repair welding, joint completion or further fabrication work.
This process is commonly used for preparing complete joint penetration welds, removing defective weld areas, opening cracks or worn sections for repair and preparing structural components for modification work across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
At CPW Contracting, gouging work is performed by qualified personnel using controlled procedures for weld preparation, defect removal and repair access. Work is completed in alignment with applicable CSA W59, CWB W47.1 and project-specific quality requirements where required.
Used for controlled material removal in field locations where mechanical cutting or grinding may not be practical.
Effective for structural repair, shutdown work and industrial maintenance where worn or defective material must be removed.
Supports CJP weld preparation, root access and defect removal before repair welding or final welding completion.
